“I think dance music is a beautiful thing, it’s a great thing, and that’s what I want to show the world: dance music can really bring people together”

– Armin Van Buuren

What happens when you put Armin Van Buuren, Afrojack, Krewella and Nicky Romero in one room – one hell of a party! On Thursday 5 December, Marquee Sydney was home to Nova’s MASSIVE Red Room Stereosonic Edition. The atmosphere was amazing, the dance floor was pumping and the crowd was loving it. So for those of you, who weren’t invited to this exclusive party, don’t worry maybe next time. But for now you can just indulge in all the awesomeness through this article.

As the sun set over the harbour, doors opened at 7pm. Everyone had their name on a private guest list and each received a red VIP lanyard on entry, we all felt what it was like to party like a rock star. When you walked in, the lasers were beaming and the music was pumping hard. But the crowd was looking a little slim, so slim in fact that the first DJ, Nicky Romero decided to start his set a little later than scheduled. But not to worry, guests were kept happy with cocktails and delicious canapés that were being served.

First to hit the stage was mask-loving EDM sensation Nicky Romero. At just 24 years of age, this Dutchman has become an international icon on the music scene. He has performed at some of the world’s biggest music festivals and has worked with huge names such as Tiesto, Sander Van Doorn and Fedde Le Grand. Nicky Romero kick started the night with a bang, dropping tracks like, ‘I Can Be The One‘ ‘Like Home‘ and his most recognised song ‘Toulouse‘.

Next up on the decks we had the explosive group from America – Krewella. The group of three was formed in 2007 and since then has headlined at festivals around the globe including Ultra Music Festival Miami, Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas and of course Stereosonic Australia Tour. And just last year, Krewella was crowned “Best Breakthrough Artist” by the International Dance Music Awards. Their smash hits ‘Alive‘ and ‘Live for the Night‘ got the crowd pumping and tore the house down.

Two hours had passed since doors opened and so far, the night was going great. There was plenty of room on the dance floor for everyone to bust a move, lining up for the toilet was non-existent and drinks were being served left and right.

We were then welcomed by the music of EDM extraordinaire Afrojack opening with his number ‘Bangduck‘. Over the past few years, this Dutchman has exploded on a global scale; impressing millions with his powerful onstage presence and unforgettable sets. He is a Grammy-award winning and platinum selling producer who has been ranked #7 on the DJ Mag Top 100 DJ’s List. Some of the crowd pleaser hits he dropped were ‘Give Me Everything‘ and ‘As Your Friend‘.

Now that Nicky Romero, Krewella and Afrojack had finished their set everyone eagerly waited for the world #1 DJ to hit the stage. Nominated for a Grammy award, a man who has revolutionised the EDM world the one and only Armin Van Buuren took to the stage for a massive three hour set. Words cannot describe the talent this man has in captivating the emotions of the crowd and his performance was nothing short of phenomenal. Armin’s set had tracks like ‘Falling In and Out of Love‘ and ‘Ping Pong‘, but towards the end he played RAMelia a beautiful tribute song to DJ RAM‘s late wife Amelia.

By now it definitely felt like a festival had broke out in the nightclub. There were people with cameras everywhere some even had their friends up on their shoulders just to get a closer look at Armin. As he finished off his set, the crowd was going crazy, people were rushing up to the DJ booth to shake his hand, grab a close-up photo and even autographs on their lanyards.

As the dance floor emptied out, everyone was ready to call it a night. All the artists played incredible sets and the atmosphere was beyond amazing.

Well, that’s it for now. Cannot wait to see what the new year brings!
