What an epic start to the year we’ve had here at Marquee Sydney!

After welcoming in the new year with notorious party boy Ray J, Grammy-nominated US DJ Morgan Page and Australia’s #1 DJ duo the Stafford Brothers, Marquee Sydney has had an endless roll call of A-list artists smashing out the decks week in, week out. Now that summer is almost over for 2014, it’s time to recap on January – an outrageous month of non-stop partying.

We kick started the new year off by hosting the Official After Party of international superstar Wiz Khalifa on Friday 3rd January. The night was buzzing as Wiz and his entourage tore down the stage, and was even joined by hip hop legend A$AP Rocky.

At just 26 years of age, Wiz Khalifa has a long list of achievements under his belt – from sold out concerts to owning his own clothing line. In 2011, he was crowned ‘Best New Artist’ by the BET Awards and in 2012 took  home the award for ‘Top New Artist’ by the Billboard Music Awards. And for the third year in a row, he was named one of Forbes Magazine’s 30 under 30 list (the music edition) along with names such as AVICII and Rihanna.

It was then time for Melbourne DJ and former member of the BodyRockers, Kaz James to take to the stage for our first Saturday night of the year. His performance set the roof on fire with his dance/rock fusion and unique onstage presence – no wonder he was David Guetta‘s tour DJ of choice last year.

For over a decade, this Italian/Greek talent has built up his musical career from scratch. Now he has gained residency in nightclubs all around Ibiza, performed with artists such as Pete Tong and NERVO and headlined at music festivals worldwide.

On Friday 10th January, we had our resident MC and DJ, K-Note take over the decks in the Boom Box room for another night of hip hop madness. His two hour set on the night showcased a mix of hip hop, RnB, soul/funk and reggae music that got the crowd pumping. The main man from Toronto always brings 110% to every performance here at Marquee Sydney and knows exactly how to bring back the forgotten genre of Old Skool.

We then welcomed for the first time to the Marquee Sydney stage, trance DJ prodigy Shogun straight from the decks of America. His amazing two hour set consisted of his own productions as well as several collaborations and mixes of other EDM gods. The American-born Taiwanese star was the first Asian DJ/producer to be signed with S107 Records – Armada Music and since then has played at ASOT tours alongside artists such as Armin Van Buuren and Above & Beyond.

It was then time to bring back an absolute favourite of ours to the decks for another night of bottle popping and musical mash-up heaven. His known for his signature quiff of the hair, unforgettable mash-ups an energetic onstage presence – he is Zannon. It was yet another wild night here at Marquee Sydney, as Zannon took over the room, dropping several of his own hits such as Phwoar and Heart (ft. Adam Saunders).

Saturday 18th January saw the likes of a huge night with a double headliner – internationally renowned BBC Radio 1 DJ, Pete Tong made his debut here at Marquee Sydney with the talented HELENA in her only Sydney show for her Australia tour. Having been in the industry for over 25 years, Pete Tong is without a doubt a legend in the EDM community and as he joined forces with HELENA on the night there was fire on the dance floor and musical bliss in the air. Cannot wait for their return!

The month of January was slowly coming to an end, and we needed to go out with a great big bang! Over three massive nights, Marquee Sydney was home to four huge artists in celebration of the Australia Day long weekend. First up we had hip hop legend and master of the turntables Nino Brown rocking out the decks of our Boom Box room. We then continued the festivities on Saturday with local Melbourne-based DJ Chardy and musical genius Funkagenda who joined forces for another crazy night. But the best was saved for last with worldwide house DJ phenomenon Max Vangeli headlining to put the cherry on top of a spectacular long weekend of hardcore partying.

The summer of 2014 has sadly come to an end but that doesn’t mean the partying has to stop. Get ready for an action-packed month this February as we are joined by The Twins, MYNC, NERVO, J.Cole, MaRlo, and many more artists. So you better free up that calender of yours because you don’t want to miss a beat here at Marquee Sydney.
